Being the middle of three sisters, I had two built-in best friends growing up. My older sister Hannah was smart, vivacious, and excelled at everything she did, and when we both moved from our hometown in West Virginia all the way up to Philadelphia, she was my rock and my best friend in every way. We bought homes at the same time and spent nearly every day exploring the city, experimenting in the kitchen, or doing home improvement projects together.
Less than a year after our big move up to Philly, I was coming back from a camping trip when my phone started blowing up with missed calls and texts. The most unimaginable thing had happened: Hannah, who I had planned to get dinner with when I got home, had passed away unexpectedly. She was just 33 years old. Shock, devastation, and heartbreak don't even scratch the surface of what I was feeling.
I was struggling to find support, and I felt disconnected from the life I knew before my sister's passing. I needed a space to understand and connect with my grief, but everything I came across was either too far away or too expensive (but usually both). Seeing the need and channeling Hannah's determination to fill that need, I created Healing Haven retreat, a retreat that offered the community, support, and reconnection with nature at a price that everyone can afford.
Join us at our yearly grief retreat by booking tickets, connect with our grief community on socials, or donate to help us cover the cost of attendance for next year's retreat.
